Science Works! Cool Jobs and Hot Careers

Ever want to chase tornadoes? Or wonder what it’s really like to design video games? You’ll learn about these and many other cool jobs at Science Works! This FREE event features an all-day career expo as well as stage presentations on some of the most unique, interesting and sometimes unexpected jobs in science, engineering and technology! Ages 13 and up.

You’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with all the scientists, to hear up-close and in person that Science Works!

Cool Jobs Schedule:

11:00 AM - Mobilizing Robotics
Get up-close with Dr. Karl Iagnemma, designer of sophisticated mobile robots that can climb walls, travel rough terrain and explore other planets.

11:45 AM - Storm Chasing
Meet Daniel Leonard, a meteorological daredevil who tracks hurricanes, tornadoes and other weather patterns to provide real-time weather forecasts to the aviation industry, energy traders and the media.

12:30 PM - Living Under the Sea
Jump into marine biology with Dr. Ellen Prager, a scientist who studies the ocean at exotic locations around the world and heads the world’s only research lab under the sea!

1:15 PM - Building it High
Catch up with Larry Novak, a structural engineer who’s designed some of the world’s most notable buildings, including the Burj Dubai Tower, the tallest free-standing building on Earth!

2:00 PM - Designer Gaming
Plug into your inner computer geek with Michael Sharps, an engineer who’s created software and games for some of the biggest names in the business.

2:45 PM - Imaging the Cosmos
Get a 3-D view of physicist Michelle Borkin, who’s turning medical computing technology into a new way to look at our universe.

3:30 PM - Collecting the Evidence
Visit the scene of a crime with an FBI special agent and hear how their scientific approach to evidence collection helps catch the criminals and prosecute cases.
