Atom Smashers, The

September 19th, 2008 7:00 PM   -   8:15 PM
Physicists at Fermilab, the world's most powerful atom smasher, are closing in on one of the universe's best-kept secrets. But stiff competition from abroad and dwindling support threaten the discovery of a lifetime. The Atom Smashers chronicles American physicists in their gripping search for the tiny "god particle" using an aging, cantankerous, four-mile machine beneath the Illinois prairie. Will the American discovery happen before their European rivals? Or will the greatest minds in physics drift across the Atlantic, closing the greatest chapter in American scientific progress? The filmmakers, as well as the scientists depicted in the film, will be present after the screening for a panel discussion.
