The Illinois Science Council (’ISC’) was developed on the premise that understanding the scientific method and scientific discoveries is crucial to a well-rounded civic life. ISC serves as the adult counterpart to the many science-outreach organizations focused on K-12 students.

We produce public programs that bring scientists and engineers together with adults to cultivate our innate curiosity. We choose topics people have heard about but may not completely understand. Our aim is to create engaging programs to appeal to an audience with many other options for their spare time.

ISC offers presentations, films, panel discussions and demonstrations designed to bring science to the layperson. We promote all areas of science – from astronomy to zoology and everything in between. Chicago is home to an extraordinary number of science institutions, so our efforts highlight the work of area experts. ISC also welcomes collaboration with other organizations and institutions in bringing science to the public.
